There's been so much discussion about school today, for all the obvious reasons.
We've got noted Education writer Maralyn Parker, raising questions about why parents, hold their kids back from attending school, for reasons of age or development as toddlers. There's no evidence she says, to back up, what 11,000 parents do, almost every year.
We've had the Premier, and his education minister, revving up their new plan, to ban kids from leaving school prior to the school certificate prior to year 10. Arguments both ways on that, but I tend to agree, not all school leavers, stay in the one line of work, and if they're forced to change direction, a school certificate is better than nothing.
Congratulations to our school zone lights man too, the man who's been bashing his head against the wall, trying to convince Government, to use his lights at every school zone in NSW, and save millions in the process. Well, those infamous lights at Roseville, the ones which saw Sophie Delezio mowed down, almost fatally, are turning his lights on there today. Some common sense at last. We'll get there at switch on time, school zone time, at 2:30. The RTA deserves to be embarrassed on this subject, the trials, the tender process, the millions spent, and the lack of lights rolled out, has been an appalling sequence of events.
