Chris Smith

Chris SmithNews, Current Affairs, the World and people, is what Chris Smith talks about everyday.

For the last 29 years, Chris has built an impressive career both in Australia and abroad covering news and current affairs in radio and television.

His journalistic career includes an MBF National Health award for a documentary on St Vincent's' Hospital's Heart Unit and a State Government Award for Excellence in Environmental Reporting for an expose on waste dumping.

Chris began his career on talkback radio and Victorian TV in regional New South Wales. His Bendigo news-team picked up a Logie, which led to his move to the big smoke. The bulk of his professional career was spent at Networks Seven and Nine, where he traveled around Australia and to all parts of the world in his role as reporter and Chief of Staff, including six years at the award-winning A Current Affair. During that time, he worked alongside the likes of Ray Martin, Jana Wendt, Mike Willesee and Derryn Hinch.

Prior to joining 2GB in late 2000 as Programme Director, Chris lived in mainland China, building bilingual talk/music radio stations for a French radio corporation in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. That's where he learnt the keys required to do business in China.

And at the beginning of 2005, the Nine Network signed on Chris to present the Early Edition News. And in July 2007, he became a regular on the Channel 7 Morning Show and Sunrise.

Chris is also an author, having published a non-fictional work titled 'BEYOND HEARTBREAK, the True Story of Lorraine Cibilic'. Acclaimed author, Bryce Courtenay wrote his foreword with the proceeds going to St Vincent's' Hospital.

Recently New Holland published his thriller, STALKED, a true story on the frightening attacks on several women, by a serial stalker in Sydney.

Chris is also an ambassador for the Royal Rehabilitation Centre at Ryde...and has even had two tattoos applied, to help raise money for the Centre.

He's also an Ambassador for Karitane, the respected parent, maternity and foster organisation. He's about to join Organ Donation Australia as an Ambassador too.

You can now hear Chris as he presents the 2GB Afternoon Show weekdays from 12pm to 3pm AEDT. His Afternoon Show is now Number 1 across all Sydney radio stations.
