Arrest made over one of the longest-running cold cases
A man has been arrested over one of the Gold Coast’s longest-running cold cases.
Queensland homicide police have taken a 51-year-old man into custody. He is charged with one count of murder in relation to the 1983 cold case murder of Gold Coast woman Linda Reed.
Ms Reed was 21-years-old when she went on a lunch break at her Pacific Fair Shopping Centre workplace, never to return.
Her body was found bound and gagged three days later, close to her Mazda sedan.
Detectives describe her abduction and murder as completely random and devastating for her family and community.
The cold case murder investigation was reopened in 2009 after a tip-off.
“Well done to Queensland Police cold case detectives, they’ve done an outstanding job,” says Ray Hadley.
The charged man will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this afternoon.
