Sydney Cycleways – What are your thoughts?

What do you think of Clover Moore’s CBD Cycleways?

Do you think they are a hindrance to business and motorists, or do you think the decision to increase pedestrian mobility – similar to cities in Europe and the United States – is a good idea?

Do you use the Cycleways? Have they helped you get to work?

Are you a motorist that has been frustrated by their emergence?

Have your say.

Clover Moore is delusional. Not only is she egocentric but she is totally incompetent.Sydney is not a small city in northern Europe.
Her arrogance knows no bounds. She needs to go to work each day without a driver and with no other special priveleges to see how sydneysiders really live. A city is a city not a park. Since when can people carry everything they need to do their business on a bike. Give us the best public transportand then maybe you can have no cars.

I am a salesman & have been driving for 48 years. If cycleways are needed why not reduce the footpath width. In the areas where these are being built foot traffic is minimal e.g. Bourke Rd. & St. Rarely do we see throngs of pedestrians using these apart from bus stops which could be made queue orderly. Half the path from both roadsides should be enough.

Cyclists do not obey any road rules, they charge through pedestrians, cut of traffic at intersections, overtake on the inside, ignore all lights, including the specially creating bycycle lights. There are no penalties for reckless driving, and they are abusive and aggressive to both motorists and pedestrians. They do not hesitate to use one-way streets in the wrong direction. No penalties, no fines, no registration and no contribution to the maintenance of the roads. They should have to pay

Dear Alan,
I feel that these cycleways are a waste of money.
Recently I walked around Woolloomooloo when the work was going on, and from what I could see, these cycleways are a waste of money.
Will we see Clover Moore riding a bike around them?
I live in the country, and the city is hard enough to get around now, without this additional hazard, which from what I can see is stifling businesses and making it very hard for delivery people.
Sincerely, Bill

Several sections of the Bourke Street Cycleway are completed. The cycleway is a prescription for horrible cyclist injuries with removal, from the original design, of an approved raised 400mm safety barrier between the cycleway and parked cars. It makes a mockery of Sydney City Council spin that benefits of the cycleway will improve safety for bike riders which will in turn make riding a bike a more attractive transport alternative.

I'm grateful for Clover Moore for attempting to turn Sydney into a place for everyone to enjoy living in, rather than allowing it to become a giant car park catering to motor vehicles only. With more bicycles & fewer cars on the road everyone gets to benefit from the lifestyle/health improvements.

Furthermore the complaints about the costs are ridiculous. The amount of money spent on bike infrastructure is miniscule compared to that spent on cars.

I checked out clovers survey and am wondering about the identified benefits of a cycleway network. How were these identified, where is the research and evidence, especially in regards to polloution. Slowing down traffic adds to pollouton, it does not reduce it, this is the same stupid logic of those ratbags who periodically block peak traffic with cycle protests. This is about people who hate cars. Surly such blatant abuse of power and misuse of funds is a crime and Clover can be prosecuted?

Clovers missguided cycleways are a serious accident waiting to happen.

I would like to say that dearest Clover has got no idea. I wonder whether the cyclists are going to pay high registration fees for the privilage of having these cycleways. I would also expect these bikes are up to standard and therefore need to "go over the pits" each year. Why should I as a registered vehicle subsidize these works. Come to think of it maybe the pedestrians should also pay high registation fees. I am glad we as a city don't need anything more than cycleways.
