Queensland tourism welcomes borders reopening

Michael McLaren

With Queensland borders about to open, Michael is joined by Daniel Gschwind, Chief Executive of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, whose state’s tourism industry had been crippled by the pandemic and lost up to $5 billion in the past quarter due to COVID-19.

“It came to a complete standstill in March, we’re seeing a slow reopening of activity now but it will be a long road back” Mr Gschwind says.

More than $2 billion worth of visitor expenditure is expected to be lost in Far North Queensland this year as Queensland forges ahead with a multi-million-dollar tourism blitz hoping to lure people north as other parts of the country tighten borders.
