Most child restraints poorly fitted

Motor Torque

I’ve spoken about it before and its worth reiterating but around two-thirds of child car seats and restraints are not installed correctly in Australia – there’s a number of reasons and if you have small children you will be well aware of them.  And of course many older cars don’t have the latest Isofix anchorages to suit the latest harnesses and seats. In reality, putting your kids in car seats with loose fittings can be highly dangerous. Likewise, putting your small kids in adult car seat belts is also very dangerous – understandably, small kids for the best part don’t like being restrained tightly – and of course in an impact the location of the belt relative to the body is important if it’s going to do the job. The problem is that child restraints are not inexpensive – but then again life is precious – using 2016 figures of 66 children under 13 who died in N.S.W that year only 29 were properly restrained.
