In June Kia’s Cerato, was their six best-selling model in the market, representing nearly 40 per cent of Kia Australia’s sales, the excellent hatch the predominant seller. I’ve recently tested the Kia Cerato GT, a 1.6-litre turbo automatic performance hatch at a sensibly priced $32,990. A five-door hatch with a performance uplift – not a boy racer, but a subtle performance model wisely launched in seven-speed dual—clutch automatic with manual shift paddles. In addition to the turbo engine the Cerato GT gains a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension over the standard models torsion beam set-up, while the front brakes are larger 305mm ventilated discs. Visual differences run to deeper side sills, a lower rear bumper with dual exhausts, gloss black door mirrors, leather sports seats, wireless phone charging and 18-inch alloy wheels. Despite local suspension tune the ride can be a little harsh on rough surfaces. Nevertheless, the driving experience is very rewarding in very comfortable and stylish five-door body.
