NSW Deputy Premier changes tune, backs PM as leader

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has changed his tune, now backing Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull as leader.

Late last year the deputy premier sensationally called for Mr Turnbull to quit before Christmas, taking aim at a lack of leadership.

Now, as the federal government prepares for its 30th consecutive Newspoll loss, Mr Barilaro has adopted a very different view.

“Newspolls are only one measure.

“I’ve been critical of the leadership of the federal government but in recent days I’ve got to give credit to the Prime Minister.

“The reality is… think about pre-Christmas things were looking very bleak in relation to what was happening.

“I’m supportive of good strong leadership and I’m seeing it at the moment.”
