More hoops to jump through for border-barred Queenslander despite stranger’s generosity

A cancer patient barred from returning to her home state is this afternoon facing more barriers from the Queensland government.

Sharen Gordon’s story lit up Jim Wilson’s open line, with listeners reaching out to donate money to help her out.

Following the interview, a light plane pilot got in touch offering to fly her the 10 minutes from Murwillumbah to Coolangatta free of charge, to prevent her from travelling via COVID-stricken Sydney.

However, “unfortunately, this man has to get an exemption from Queensland Health,” she told Jim.

“He may have to go into hotel quarantine – I just can’t ask him to do that.

“I had a lot of hope this morning … but as the day’s worn on, it’s gotten a little bit tougher.”
