Former Nationals leader weighs in on the turmoil in Canberra

Former Nationals leader John Anderson says he’s never seen two coalition leaders so openly at war.

Mr Anderson tells Chris Kenny the tensions between Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his deputy, Barnaby Joyce, are concerning.

“The idea of them being at war with one another at a time like this is deeply concerning.

“If we’re not careful this will ensure another return to Opposition and that’s a chilling prospect.”

Mr Anderson says trust needs to be restored between the two parties quickly.

“The restoration of trust becomes incredibly important.

“Either they fix it by doing whatever is necessary to communicate properly with one another again or eventually it will overtake both of them.”
