Several people are dead after a gunman went on a shooting rampage at a newspaper in Maryland, USA.

The man fired through a glass door at the Capital Gazette near Annapolis and reportedly sprayed the newsroom with bullets.

Police have confirmed five people are dead and several others injured and say the gunman is now in custody, undergoing interrogation.

Phil Davis, a courts and crime reporter at the newspaper, tweeted his account of the incident after making it to safety.

Davis says, “A single shooter shot multiple people at my office, some of whom are dead.”

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident and has issued a message to the victims.

Many in the American media are blaming Mr Trump’s dislike of journalists for the incident but police say they have no motive at this stage.
