A psychiatrist has criticised the NDIS for allowing the “gentrification” of people with disabilities.

Dr Ahmed Tanveer argued that it’s becoming “mainstream” and the incentives are driving it.

“We are increasingly medicalising all sorts of other behaviours,” Dr Tanveer said.

“I do think we need to challenge how we decide disability and not make it a part of an untouchable category where we have to walk softly around the term.”
