Bestselling author Liane Moriarty is hardly a tennis fanatic, but her latest novel would have you fooled.

Apples Never Fall sees matriarch of the Delaney family, Joy, disappear after she and her husband Stan sell their tennis coaching business.

“Tennis came about accidentally, really,” Moriarty told Deborah Knight. “I knew that I wanted my family to have a family business … for the sake of convenience.

“It means I can keep all my characters in the one spot.”

Moriarty was inspired after taking a tennis lesson to keep up with her son on the court.

“And then it sort of evolved because I thought … ‘Now I’m going to have to learn about the world of tennis…'”
