A humpback whale is caught in ropes and netting off North Bondi.

A whale watching boat has jumped into action to assist the distressed whale.

Annie is on board the Whale Watching Sydney vessel and she joins Ben Fordham.

“The whale has been wrapped up in rope right up at its nose end… it was dragging a fish trap.

“The poor thing was exhausted it was just sitting on the surface. It had no energy, it couldn’t do anything.”

She says a whale rescue team is en route but they’ve been able to help the struggling animal.

“We’ve cut some of the line. We’ve also been able to release the line around its head.”
