The UK has been hit with a horror flu season and some British locals are blaming their sickness on an ‘Aussie flu’.

Dr Bruce Willett, Chair of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Queensland, joins Michael McLaren to clear up whether these claims are true.

“Of course it’s not. It’s probably something to do with the cricket.”

The flu, which has struck both Australia and Britain, is a specific strain of influenza.

“What happens is the flu mutates every year and it changes a little.

“It tends to rip through the community.”

Dr Willet says around 3,000 of the 350,000 Australians who contact the flu every year will die from the sickness.

“It’s important we’re all vaccinated [against the flu] to protect older people.”
