‘This wasn’t necessary’: Reprieve at last for cancer patient locked out of Queensland

A Queenslander undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer has finally been allowed back into her home state, after been barred for attending her mother’s funeral in Victoria.

A very relieved Sharen Gordon joined Jim Wilson from a taxi in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, after Queensland Health caved and granted her a last-minute exemption to cross the border by road.

She’ll still need to undergo 14 days of hotel quarantine. Taxi driver Adam was required to be vaccinated and approved for a border pass.

“But I think he’s done a couple of these kinds of runs now, so he’s an expert at it!”

Sharen had a final message for the Queensland government: “This wasn’t necessary”.
