It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re being urged to take a moment to thank those who give up their time to help others.

Six million people undertake unpaid work, contributing $290 billion in social and economic goodwill every year.

The SES is asking Aussies to take part in Wear Orange Wednesday this week to thank volunteers who help during storms, floods and other natural disasters.

NSW Commissioner Mark Smethurst tells Alan Jones volunteers deserve all the thanks they can get.

“They do a tremendous job and one of the things we have done over the last few months is make it really easy for people to volunteer.

“We’re taking a really flexible approach in getting citizens on board to be volunteers.”
