Senator Jim Molan: ‘There are some times when policy must be hard… this is one of them’

US President Donald Trump is defending his administration’s tough stance on immigration despite pushback from Democrats and Republicans.

President Trump says the Democrats are at fault for the immigration policy which has seen around 2,000 children removed from the Mexican border in recent months.

“Just remember, a country without borders is not a country at all,” Mr Trump said today.

“We need borders, we need security, we need safety. We have to take care of our people.”

Liberal Senator Jim Molan can’t see the US President budging on the issue and says strong policies on border control are necessary.

“I’m afraid he’s totally and absolutely right, a country without borders is not a country,” Senator Molan tells Chris Smith.

“The real irony is that Democrats caused this and their refusal to pass what was a logical border protection bill has encouraged what’s happening now on the Mexican border.”

When it comes to the Coalition’s border protection policy, the Liberal Senator says most Australians who opposed it were “well-intentioned”.

“But the world is not a lovey place. There are some times when policy must be hard and fairly tough and this is one of them.”
