It’s estimated up to 87 percent of undamaged, edible harvested tomatoes are being rejected purely based on cosmetic appearance.

Researchers have been following two supply chains in Bundaberg, which one of our biggest tomato producing areas.

During the peak of harvest, it’s estimated the quantity of losses is valued at between $20,000 and $41,000 per day.

Rural reporter Eddie Summerfield caught up with University of the Sunshine Coast Research Assistant Tara McKenzie.
