Rock melon quality good, as growers hope demand picks up
The rock melon harvest is underway, with growers hoping demand picks up with schools now back.
The growing season has delivered ideal fruit quality this Summer, but for some growers, unfortunately prices have been low because of an oversupply.
Cooper Melons Director Joe Schirripa says “there’s no use sugar coating the way it is, it’s probably the worst start to a season we’ve seen in for a long, long time.”
Rural reporter Eddie Summerfield spoke with Joe Schirripa who runs an 800 acre mixed farm, growing wheat, rice, cotton, and rock melon near Griffith in New South Wales.
