NSW’s First Poppy crop

New South Wales farmers can now grow a high value crop, with the state’s first poppies germinating ahead of harvest in October.

The increasing demand for poppies has the crop forecast to be valued up to $100 million in 10 years time.

Rural reporter Eddie Summerfield spoke with Department of Primary Industries Chief Scientist Dr Philip Wright, and started by asking about the work that’s gone into getting the crops to this stage.
