Country of origin labels become law

Rural News

From Sunday most food offered for retail sale in Australia will require to carry country of origin labelling.

A two year transition period has seen most manufacturers, processors, and importers already start to use the new logos.

Priority foods that are grown, produced, or made in Australia will be labelled with a three-part standard featuring the Made in Australia Kangaroo, a bar chart showing the proportion of local ingredients, and descriptive text.

Rural reporter Eddie Summerfield caught up with SPC Domestic Supply Chain Manager David Frizzell.
