A wasted life

The N.S.W. road toll this year has shown a significant rise – with 127 fatalities to last Wednesday the road toll is up 18 percent or 19 more than the same time last year. We sometimes forget the
consequences in these figures; bear a thought for the young 19-year old learner driver Jodie Gillett who lost her life last Friday evening at Glenorie while learning to drive with her dad who remains in a critical condition in Royal North Shore Hospital. Her tragic loss just one hour after leaving her part time job in Baulkham Hills and going for a driving lesson should be a poignant reminder of just how easy it is to become a road toll statistic on today’s busy roads. There’s been a certain numbness in the Hills Shire this week on the terrible loss of this highly respected and beautiful young women, a distinguished HSC achiever from Castle Hill High School in 2016 and studying to become a primary school teacher.
