A good time to buy a new car but a time to be wary as well

Official V-Facts car sales figures for November released this week once again showed up a sluggish new car market – the 20th consecutive month of decreasing sales. As Tony Weber, the chief executive of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries put it ‘It’s a tough market – full stop, but on the bright side, there’s never been a better time to purchase a new vehicle.’ True, now is a great time to negotiate a hot deal but there are pitfalls for the unwary – As I said, the sales decline began last year, there’s still a fair amount of 2018-build models in dealer stock, even some 2017-build, so make sure you check the build date of the vehicle your buying, not the compliance plate. If it’s a 2018 build vehicle it’s already depreciated by one year so you need a substantial discount, and if you buy it in January, its depreciated by two years and you need to be even more hard-nosed in your purchase negotiation.
