Mum and four children killed in ‘catastrophic’ Queensland crash

A woman and four children have been killed in a fiery crash in Queensland last night.
At about 7.20pm, a Nissan station wagon was travelling on the Bunya Highway near Kingaroy, about 200 kilometres north-west of Brisbane.
It’s believed the car pulled out to overtake a truck and crashed head-on into another truck.

Both vehicles burst into flames, with a 35-year-old woman from Eli Waters, and her three children – all aged under 10 – killed at the scene.
A young girl in the same vehicle was rushed to Kingaroy Hospital before being airlifted to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
Tragically, she died during the flight.
The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old man, was taken to Kingaroy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigations are continuing with the Highway expected to remain closed for some time.
Emergency services at the scene are describing the scene as “catastrophic”.
“It’s certainly one of the worst accidents I’ve ever seen,” he told Channel 9.
“It’s just a tragedy for everyone involved.”
Update: The Bunya Highway will remain closed for several hours. Motorists are advised to plan ahead with their journey and avoid the area.

Alan Jones has described the incident as an “unbelievable tragedy” and urged everybody to take care on the roads.
“Presumably, there’s a husband and a father somewhere who is going to receive, or has received, all this news.
“Life is fleeting and sometimes when you pick up the papers, as we do, you can’t help think how lucky we are.”
