Melbourne vs Parramatta: Club greats have their say
It’s a big night for both Melbourne and Parramatta, as they battle it out to book a spot in the Preliminary Finals against the Sydney Roosters next week.
In the lead up to the match at AAMI Park (kick off at 7.50pm), The Continuous Call Team caught up with Parramatta great Peter Wynn and Melbourne Storm legend Glenn Lazarus.
Peter played 175 games for Parramatta between 1979 and 1990 and spoke with the team from the sideline at AAMI Park.
Wet weather usually plays in Melbourne’s favour. But Peter says Parramatta is determined to prove themselves.
“[They] don’t want to go away tonight as a loser.”
In 2017, the Eels finished the regular season in 4th position, but lost to Melbourne in the first week of finals at AAMI Park. Peter says the team, and coach Brad Arthur, learnt a lot from the loss.
And when he was asked which Parramatta jersey’s most in demand at his store, Peter Wynn’s Score, he says it’s a no brainer…
“Number 2 – Maika Sivo!”
For the Minor Premiers, nothing is guaranteed.
“I’m a little bit worried…it’s not a done deal by any stretch” says club legend Glenn Lazarus.
“They just haven’t got it down pat…their attack.”
Glenn was a big part of Melbourne Storm when they first joined the NRL, and was part of their inaugural Grand Final.
In fact, he was involved in the inaugural grand final for all three of his clubs; Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne.
He also played 19 State of Origin games for NSW and represented Australia 21 times.
