A man has spent the night behind bars, charged with murdering a mother in her Wollongong home.

39-year-old Kristie Powell was found dead inside her Bellambi home last Friday, with her five-month-old baby son in the next room, unharmed.

Police have spent the last few days searching for 29-year-old Bhanu Kirkman.

At about 4pm on Monday they found him near Maitland Railway Station and placed him under arrest.

He’s since been charged with murder and been refused bail to appear in court today.

Police have previously confirmed they’re reviewing “disturbing” Facebook posts as part of their investigation.

Ms Powell had complained to friends about being stalked by a man who called himself ‘The Reaper’.
