Minister for Immigration Alex Hawke has said the leaker of the alleged text messages scrutinizing Prime Minister Scott Morrison has “come out of New South Wales”.

“It’s obviously a New South Wales matter.

“There are no surprises about that.”

When asked if he could rule himself out as the leaker Minister Hawke told Jim Wilson, “Oh absolutely yeah”.

The Immigration Minister believes that whoever is involved in the leaked exchange did not have the thoughts of the government in mind saying, “whoever it was, wasn’t thinking of the interests of the state government, federal government or the country”.

“I don’t believe it was one of my colleagues either.”
