As fires continue to burn across NSW and QLD insurance companies are starting to see an increase in claims being lodged.

As of 11am today, the Insurance Council of Australia reported 150 claims received from catastrophic areas affected by the bushfires.

With many residents yet to return to properties, and worsening conditions forecast, insurers are expecting more claims to flood in.

IAG Executive General Manager of claims, Luke Gallagher tells Ross Greenwood they have a dedicated major event claims team ready to move into the impacted area.

“We aren’t able to get in there at the moment because it’s not safe to send our people in there.

“So, I encourage people to call us, to lodge claim as soon as you can so that we can start processing emergency payments… arranging temporary accommodation.”
