Greg Inglis has been awarded the honour of captaining the Kangaroos in their upcoming Test matches against New Zealand and Tonga.

The rugby league great will lead the new-look side, which features four players who are looking to make their debut in the green and gold – Latrell Mitchell, Damien Cook, Tyrone Peachey and James Tedesco.

Earlier today, Inglis told Ray Hadley it will be a great honour to lead the team.

“It’s a massive honour for myself and for South Sydney as well,” he said. “I just want to do a great job as the other leaders did in my position.”

Inglis’s cousin Elaine has called in to tell Chris Smith she’s immensely proud of him.

“I’m very proud of my cousin, Greg Inglis.”

She says Inglis plays “just like his grandfather did” at Kempsey on the New South Wales Mid North Coast in the “early days”.

“He was 6ft 2 and ran like a rabbit!”
