The QLD Dairy Farmers’ Organisation is calling on Australians to support a 10 cent per litre milk levy – to help Aussie farmers struggling with the drought and skyrocketing fodder costs.

Over 21,000 people have signed the petition thus far, unequivocally declaring their support. The petition can be found here: https://www.change.org/p/petition-coles-woolworths-for-a-10-cent-litre-drought-levy-on-all-milk

Matthew Trace, Vice President at the QLD Dairy Farmers Organisation, tells Luke Grant he hopes the petition will be a breakthrough moment, when the plight of farmers finally resonates with the supermarket duopolies, Coles and Woolworths.

“As farmers, we’ve always felt the consumers are on side with it. However, it’s going to take something epic to get the message through to the big retailers,” says Trace.

“We’ve got two aspects of struggle. The ongoing lack of profit from $1 a litre milk. And then the drought, that’s the double whammy.”
