Health Minister: ‘White privilege’ guidelines never cited by Commonwealth

Nurses and midwives across the country have been told to acknowledge their white privilege before helping those in critical need.

The changes, which came into effect in March, have been slammed by those within the industry.

At a federal and state level, ministers don’t have control over the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, which implemented the changes.

But NSW Health Minister Greg Hunt says changes to the code were never cited by the Commonwealth.

“The claim that it was approved or even cited by the Commonwealth was false.

“It seems excessive, unnecessary and what should be the focus is patient care and making sure that at the most critical time, the safety of the mother and child is paramount above all else.”
