Firefighters are battling to contain blazes across NSW as temperatures continue to soar.

NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons, tells Ben Fordham fireys have a long week ahead of them.

“What we don’t want is people to become complacent.

“We’ve got 30-odd fires around the state and there’s quite a number that are particularly problematic.

“We’ve got just under 1,000 firefighters out on those firegrounds as we speak trying to get the upper hand on them all but they’ve got a long week ahead.”

Mr Fitzsimmons has also urged anyone with information about a deliberately lit fire at the Royal National Park to come forward.

“If anyone’s got any footage… or indeed if they’ve seen anything, please ring Crime Stoppers.

“You might just have that piece of the jigsaw puzzle that the police are looking for to help them with their investigations.”
