Early intervention critical when it comes to cyber bullying

The nation has been left in shock after 14-year-old Amy ‘Dolly’ Everett took her own life as a result of online bullying.

Mark Levy speaks with eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant who is urging parents to talk to their kids.

“Prevention is important, but so is early intervention.

“Not only do we want parents to be talking to their kids early and often, we want to be working with children themselves to develop the resilience they need to deal with this online onslaught.”

The eSafety office’s cyber bullying scheme has a 100% success rate.

The organisation has successfully helped 660 kids in removing content from social media sites.

“I don’t think banning technology is the answer. It’s back to resilience.

“Early intervention is the most important thing.”
