A ‘heaving mass of humanity’: Artists and music fans mourn loss of iconic club

Coogee Bay Hotel’s Selina’s club is set to be bulldozed, prompting an outpouring of grief from the artists who performed and the fans who flocked to the iconic Sydney venue.

Screaming Jets frontman Dave Gleeson fondly recalled his own memories of the club, including his early performances for Triple J’s Battle of the Bands.

Selina’s was a “big, long heaving mass of humanity”, he told Jim Wilson.

“They’re becoming fewer and further between, the iconic kind of venues.

“It’s got a very fond place in our heart.”
