Sydneysiders are being asked to stay at home as strikes hit the public transport system.

75 per cent of trains aren’t running due to ongoing industrial action at the same time key bus routes halt.

Trains on the T5 Cumberland line won’t be running at all.

The private bus strike is affecting the Inner West, parts of the CBD, Olympic Park, Strathfield and Rockdale.

Bus drivers will walk off the job 4am to 7am and then 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Sydney Trains CEO Matt Longland told Ben Fordham he hopes the month-long industrial action is coming to an end.

Transport Workers’ Union NSW Secretary Richard Olsen called in from a bus protest in Burwood.

He told Ben Fordham today’s strike has nothing to do with the Rail, Train and Bus union.

“It happens to coincide with the train strike … but today’s the day where everyone should just stay at home.”

He defended the hours of the industrial action as “responsible”.

Mr Olsen admits he sits alongside Alex Claassens on Labor Party’s Administrative Committee, a group responsible for election campaigns.
