Jodi McKay admits she ‘should’ve known’ key economic figures
NSW Opposition leader Jodi McKay has admitted she should have been across key economic figures in her first day as the alternative premier.
Ms McKay was elected the new Labor leader on Saturday night after a three-month ballot process.
But she failed to recall key economic figures after her election, including the state’s net debt, unemployment rate and GST revenue.
She said NSW’s net debt currently sits at around $800 million, when it is actually negative $8.8 billion.
Ms McKay tells Ben Fordham she’s taking responsibility for the mistake.
“I should’ve known that. I didn’t know it was $8 billion negative net debt for this year.
“I have to get across those facts and figures. I also want to make sure that we’re not just a party that is about data, we are actually a party that understands the impact of those figures.”
