Independent MP Zali Steggall is defending the failure to declare a $100,000 donation from former coal investor John Kinghorn and his family.

There were eight individual “pledges” from the Kinghorn family’s trust in the lead-up to the 2019 election.

Each pledge was below the $13,800 threshold above which donations have to be declared.

Federal Liberal MP Tim Wilson told Ben Fordham there need to be questions asked as to whether she broke the law.

“It’s the hypocrisy and the fakeness of Ms Steggall because she’s gone around lecturing everybody else about who they can take donations from.

“If she had any integrity she’d return the $100,000 and own up to the error.”
