Would-be tourists busted out of ‘holding pattern’ by Queensland border announcemnt

Clinton Maynard

To the delight of Queensland’s tourism operators, the state border has been reopened a week early to travellers from COVID hotspots.

It’s “a great announcement” for director of Cairns Adventure Group Roderic Rees, who hopes the NSW and Victorian markets haven’t make alternative plans.

“People have been sitting in a holding pattern for the last couple of weeks, and rightfully so they’ve been very nervous,” he told Jim Wilson.

“This provides a little bit of confidence.

“We’re reaching out to those people to say ‘hey, time to make a decision – book a flight to Cairns’.”
