Australia’s women’s bobsleigh team has been axed from the Winter Olympics despite qualifying for the games.

Breanna Walker, Ashleigh Werner and Mikayla Dunn weren’t nominated for the games despite qualifying to international standards.

The team’s own federation Sliding Sports Australia (SSA) refused to nominate them, claiming the team failed to meet the federation’s internal standards.

Three-time Olympian Jana Pittman says the decision is madness.

“It’s tragedy. I do believe it’s madness.

“It’s a very small time in your life where you get to do what you dream. And then the word came from SSA that they weren’t nominated.

“What’s the hardest part is the AOC says yes, the international federation says yes, but their own Australian committee is the one saying no.”
