‘Win for small business’: Ticket booth operators at Circular Quay allowed to stay

A plan to remove ticket booth operators from Circular Quay has been abandoned in what’s being described as a win for tourism and small business.

Last year they were labelled “eyesores” and ordered to be removed despite bringing 80% of customers to harbourside attractions.

But today Chris Smith reports the Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello is working with those operators to reach an agreement.

He says in the meantime, the development application by Property NSW has been withdrawn and plans to eradicate the booths is off the agenda.

City of Sydney councillor Angela Vithoulkas says it’s a win.

“(Minister Dominello) could see this was just a matter of common sense and destroying these businesses wouldn’t help anyone,” she says.

“This is a big win for small business, for tourism.”
