What Queensland and NSW can learn from WA Premier Mark McGowan

Article image for What Queensland and NSW can learn from WA Premier Mark McGowan

Ray Hadley has called on the NSW and Queensland premiers to take a leaf out of the WA Premier’s book when it comes to illegal border-hoppers.

Western Australia has jailed individuals breaching their border restrictions, such as three AFL grand final attendees who snuck in via the Northern Territory and South Australia.

Ray Hadley commended the McGowan government’s “far more severe” punishments, in contrast to the case of a man who travelled to the Gold Coast illegally while infectious.

“The point that … shouldn’t be lost on people here in the eastern states, particularly in Queensland at the moment, is there seems [to be] no strong action against these sorts of people.

“He should be placed before a magistrate and he should go to jail.

“He’s put the entire south-eastern part of Queensland at risk through his irresponsible actions.”
