‘What about us?’: Caller Maddy condemns body shaming

Western Australia is considering implementing a weight discrimination law that could result in fines of up to $10,000.

20-year-old Maddy shone a light on the other side of body shaming, saying: “I’ve faced snarky comments my whole life about my size and how small I am”.

She told Ben this morning: “Only a few weeks ago, I started a new job. I had someone turn around and go, ‘Wow, you’re slim’. And I just [stood] there awkwardly…”.

Maddy elaborated that comments on her size were not compliments, and they wouldn’t be perceived as such if similar comments were directed towards larger people.
