Mona Vale road in Pymble has been thrown into traffic chaos this morning following a multi-vehicle crash and truck fire.

The accident initially closed the road in both directions, but as of 8.55am one northbound lane is now open, however southbound lanes remain completely closed.

Northbound diversions have been lifted but southbound traffic is still being diverted onto Telegraph Road and the Pacific Highway.

Traffic is very heavy in both directions so motorists are advised to avoid the area or allow plenty of extra travel time.

The vehicle fire has now been extinguished, however, there has been a large diesel spill and power lines are also down as a result of the crash.

Some buses in the area are diverting and are delayed.

Emergency services and traffic crews remain on site.
