Transport Minister digs in over rail line battle: ‘They need to get on with it’
A bitter court battle is brewing between state government and the Spanish firm tasked with building the light rail line down George Street.
The company claim they were misled about the project and they and want an extra $1.2 billion to finish the job.
The court case has left the completion date in the balance but Transport Minister Andrew Constance isn’t budging, saying they’ll be held to the contract.
“Let’s call a spade a spade. That is an absurd amount of money when there is a contract in place… to deliver this,” he tells Ben Fordham.
“They’re trying to get me to write a cheque and I’m not going to do so as Minister.
“We’ve got $80 billion of work happening around the state over the next four years.
“And yet these people somehow think they’re special and they’re not. They need to get on with the job.”
If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that the Minister won’t be conceding any ground.
