Why thousands of avocados are rotting away at an Aussie tip

Rising shipping and labour costs are forcing farmers to dump thousands of avocados.

A resident in far north Queensland found the enormous green pile of avocados left to rot at her local tip.

The major supermarkets are selling single avocados for between $1.60 and $1.80.

Avocados Australia board member Jim Kochi told Ben Fordham it would help if Aussies bought more avocados.

“We’ve probably caused the problem with our own success.”
