Thousands of animals killed to produce vegan food

Farmer Matthew Evans says thousands of animals are killed each year in Australia to produce vegan food.

Farmers are forced to kill animals to protect their crops and Mr Evans estimates rice farmers in NSW have killed nearly 200,000 native ducks over five years.

Former chef and SBS host Mr Evans tells Ben Fordham the figures were easy to find.

“It doesn’t matter what you eat, an animal has died to produce that for your table.

“It’s easier to show footage of bad things that have happened… but you’ve got to realise when you grow food… 1500 animals die… so they can grow peas for the frozen pea market.

“It doesn’t matter if you believe me or not… it still happens.”
