‘It’s so disrespectful’: Outrage at plans for Bali bombing site

The families of the Bali bombing victims have been left devastated after local Bali authorities approved plans for a restaurant on the site of the bombing.

The former site of the Sari Club where 202 people were killed in 2002 is set to be turned into a five-storey complex.

The Bali Peace Park Association has spent years fundraising to have a memorial erected there.

Jan Laczynski lost five of his friends working as security guards at the club. He had flown out of Bali only hours before the bombing.

He tells Ben Fordham it is a sacred site which should be preserved.

“I just can’t believe that they’re going down this road.

“They’ve been using the tragedy all along for financial gain.

“It’s so disrespectful.”
