The story behind one of Australia’s most iconic buildings

Article image for The story behind one of Australia’s most iconic buildings

The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous buildings in the country.

But not many of us know the full story behind its Danish architect.

Anthony Chidiac teaches history and has written The Priceless Gift: Utzon’s Symphony, a picture book outlining the story of Jørn Utzon’s journey to Australia to commemorate the architect’s 100th birthday.

Anthony’s aim is to inspire young people to find their own gift and not be put off by obstacles along the way.

He tells Deborah Knight Utzon’s design was not initially successful but was rediscovered in a scrap heap.
