Have you ever wondered why we tuck into pancakes every Shrove Tuesday?

Chris Smith explains that traditionally, it was the last chance for Christians to indulge themselves before Lent began the next day.

Back in the day, there were many foods that couldn’t be eaten during Lent, such as meat, eggs and milk.

Christians would use up all the tempting foods in their house, such as eggs and butter, and use them to make delicious pancakes!
